Our Team Brings Critical Rescue Resource to Uniontown, Kan. and Liberal, Mo. Fire Departments
Farming families and grain handlers know all too well the dangers associated with grain bin entrapment. Local emergency responders understand that without the life-saving equipment to help rescue someone in this situation, the outcome could be devastating.
That's why our team at Specialty Risk Insurance has partnered with Nationwide and the National Education Center for Agricultural Safety (NECAS) in its annual Nominate Your Fire Department Contest. The contest awards grain rescue tubes and hands-on training to help first responders save lives. This year, our team is awarding a grain bin safety tube and training to two local fire departments: Uniontown, Kansas and Liberal, Missouri. Please join us in the awarding and grain bin safety training!
Liberal, Missouri Fire Department: Thursday, September 26 at 6 p.m. at 205 S. Main St. Liberal, MO 64762
Uniontown, Kansas Fire Department: Saturday, September 28 at 8 a.m. at Beachner Grain - 611 Clay St. Bronson, KS 66716
“Specialty Risk Insurance is proud to partner with Nationwide to help save lives in our local agricultural communities,” said Kevin Charleston, agency owner. “Our team is passionate about making a positive impact in our rural communities by providing education and resources.”
Nationwide, the number one farm insurer in the United States1, initiated the annual Grain Bin Safety Week campaign in collaboration with agricultural industry leaders after identifying a lack of specialized resources available to rural fire departments, who are often the only line of defense against bin entrapments. This advocacy campaign helps educate those entering grain bins of the dangers and the importance of following safe entry procedures.
Since 2014, Nationwide’s annual Nominate Your Fire Department Contest has awarded rescue tubes and specialized training to 112 fire departments across 26 states. For more information about the event contact Karie Currence at 417-359-5470 or kariecurrence@prevent-risk.com.
